Make a lasting impact by including Friends of UNFPA in your estate plans.

A planned gift today will advance the health, dignity, and rights of women and girls around the world for generations to come.

Ensure that UNFPA’s life-saving work carries on into the future by making a planned gift in support of Friends of UNFPA.

“I believe strongly in the rights of women and girls and their access to reproductive health and family planning.  No mother should die in childbirth and girls should be able to reach their full potential.  I am honored to support the life-saving and life-changing work of UNFPA as a member of Friends of UNFPA’s Legacy Society.  My planned gift will help to ensure the essential support for women and girls globally that is their human right.  I invite you to join me.”  – Connie J. Smith, CA

Wills and Living Trusts: A Legacy of Giving

A charitable bequest consists of one or two sentences in your will or living trust that leaves a specific item, an amount of money, a gift contingent upon certain events, or a percentage of your estate to Friends of UNFPA.

You may leave a bequest to Friends of UNFPA by adding to an existing will or drafting a new one. You can also designate Friends of UNFPA to receive a specific dollar amount or property, a percentage of your estate, or the residual after other designations are fulfilled.

Examples of bequest language:

“I give to Friends of UNFPA or its successor organization [specify property or dollar amount].”
“I give to Friends of UNFPA or its successor organization [all or a percentage] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate.”

If you intend your gift to support Friends of UNFPA without restriction, the language above will suffice.  Should you wish to restrict your gift to UNFPA to a specific issue or geographic region, please utilize the below language:

“I give to Friends of UNFPA or its successor organization the sum of [specify dollar amount or percentage] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate.  I direct that Friends of UNFPA use these funds to support UNFPA’s work in [specify issue area or geographic region].”

Make sure to consult with your attorney to make the appropriate changes.

Retirement Plans and IRAs: The Perfect Gift Asset

Retirement plan assets, those in qualified plans and IRAs, are ideal for charitable giving purposes as these assets are often heavily taxed when passed to non-spouse beneficiaries. Depending on your specific circumstances, you may be able to donate from your IRA, or name Friends of UNFPA as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or IRA.

To complete your gift, simply contact your retirement plan or IRA administrator and request to complete a distribution or beneficiary designation form, as applicable – including obtaining your spouse’s consent if required. You choose the percentage or dollar amount you would like us to receive. Then mail it back to the plan administrator and keep a copy for your records.

Life Insurance: A Simple Way to Give a Significant Gift

Giving through life insurance is one of the easiest ways to make a significant contribution to Friends of UNFPA and establish your legacy of giving. Regardless of whether you already have a policy or are acquiring a new one, you can simply designate Friends of UNFPA as a beneficiary.

Friends of UNFPA retains discretion and control over all charitable funds it receives, including over how they are disbursed within the purposes for which they were contributed. Friends of UNFPA reserves the unilateral right to select those recipients or beneficiaries it believes will best accomplish those purposes. Accordingly, funds that remain after a specific purpose has been achieved or is no longer advisable or feasible will be used to support programs that Friends of UNFPA determines are reasonably similar to the intended purpose for which those funds were donated. Such funds may be directed to the organization to which funds were originally to be directed or a similar program or another organization within the general mission of Friends of UNFPA.
